Our central nagios monitoring system (http://kaylee.bx.psu.edu/nagios) is set up to send host and service alerts to the bxnagios Twitter account (http://twitter.com/bxnagios).

Several caveats of this configuration:

  • Most importantly, this is just for fun. To see current host/service status, see http://kaylee.bx.psu.edu/nagios (guest/guest)
  • Twitter sucks and isn't always available - nagios only attempts to send each status update once (using cURL). This could be worked around, but I'm lazy.
  • Host and service outages that would prevent status updates from ocurring (network problems, DNS problems, etc) will prevent any other status updates from appearing on the Twitter status feed altogether.
